Wedding Tips

Green Brides

Following our recent Green Hospitality Silver Award, we would like to offer wedding couples some tips to make your wedding more environmentally conscious. Every month we will offer some food for thought whilst planning your wedding in Killarney. Here are some tips to reduce transport usage.

  • Ideally try to use a ceremony venue that is local to the hotel. There is a great choice of church venues for Weddings in Killarney. Hosting a civil ceremony in the hotel will also reduce travelling needs. Details of Brehon Civil Ceremony options can be requested from weddings@thebrehon.com.

  • If you have a lot of guests travelling by cars it may be more eco-friendly to hire a coach to transport them to and from the hotel.

  • Travel from the church back to The Brehon with our Wedding Carriage instead of using a car. This beautiful horse drawn carriage will also give couples access to great photo locations in the National Park not accessible by car.

  • Flowers

Order locally grown, seasonal flowers for your wedding. The less transport, the less carbon miles. And look for flowers grown without pesticides. Use potted plants and trees instead, or you could grow your own flowers. After the wedding, ask a friend to take displays or bouquets to a nursing home for someone else to enjoy.

The floral industry is currently under scrutiny for its poor working conditions and fair trade flowers help to ensure that consideration of the worker's conditions is taken into account.

Reuse the floral arrangements. Arrange for someone to take the floral arrangements from the wedding venue to the reception venue. It is a logical solution to otherwise wasting the flowers and it reduces your costs.
