Gap of Dunloe
The Gap of Dunloe is a narrow mountain pass carved by ancient glaciers between the MacGillycuddy Reeks and Purple Mountain. The river Loe runs through it — that’s where the name comes from. The gap stretches about 11km north to south. You can hire a jaunting car or walk it, then take a boat across Lough Leane from Lord Brandon’s Cottage back to Ross Castle. Or do it in reverse. Either direction gives you spectacular views.
