Killarney is at its best in December. The Christmas lights go up along High Street and New Street, the town’s festive markets and late-night shopping bring a real buzz, and the pubs are full of traditional music. It is a compact town, so most of it is walkable in an evening.
By day, Killarney National Park is on the doorstep. Winter is the quietest time of year on the trails around Muckross House, Torc Waterfall and the lakeshore, and a crisp December walk followed by a hot whiskey is hard to beat.
