Muckross Abbey
In the heart of Killarney National Park
Muckross Abbey was an old Irish Monastery & is a Modern Irish Graveyard. It dates back to the beginning of Christianity in Ireland. The first monastery was built in the 6th century. Today, there are the ruins of a Franciscan friary which was founded in the 15th century. The monks of Muckross Abbey were driven out in the 1650s by the Cromwellian forces.
